Due in large part to the two run single drilled by rookie Katie Howard and a steal home by Emma Hoyt, the L&V Blue Sox leapt out to an early five run lead in this AAA softball season opener. An attempt by the Dogs to find a cavity in the visitor defense was squelched in the bottom of the first when Hoyt scooped a dribbler to the mound and fired it to Morgan Cameron at home, tagging out a Dog coming in over the dish. From then on, the Dogs found that they could not brace themselves against the pitching efforts of Leone’s Hoyt and teammate Sophie Berkley, who together held the home team to a total of six runs.
